Spirit of the People was founded in July 1995. Since then it has developed significant credibility both within and outside the Aboriginal community. In its short history, Spirit of the People has made a difference in the lives of Aboriginal ex-offenders through the design and delivery of direct service and referral programs. Job search skills, Anger Management, Addiction Assessments, Community Reintegration worker, and Outreach Services are current examples of services provided by Spirit of the people.
Spirit of the People has comprehended and categorized the importance of three significant target groups served by mandate: Current offenders; ex-offenders, and Aboriginal youth
Spirit of the People is recognized by the community at large as the only organization to provide hope and encouragement through dedicated traditional methodologies to current and ex-offenders looking to reclaim their rightful place in the community by leading productive and fulfilling lives. It is also seen as an organization which can help to break the cycle of criminal activity and incarceration which has touched too many Aboriginal people, all to frequently in the past.
Spirit of the People also assists those Aboriginal community members whose lives have been interrupted by substance abuse, violence and imprisonment.
